看回今年这道题目：

首先，题目中有几个细节需要我们明确：

The past year：这件事是在过去一年中发生的；

Events：这件事不一定是发生在我们自己身上的，招生办公室的官方解释是，Essay中所选取的事件，素材和范围不限，可以是发生在个人的事，也可以是更加宏观的事件，只要对申请人有所启发和触动，都是可以的，但一定能促使你重新思考人生的意义。写作的重点在于这件事为什么对你意义重大，你的动机和理由，体现出一定思想深度。

选材时，不妨先把可以备选的素材列举出来，在立足三个核心价值做以选择。
