I instruct students and professionals in modifying their accents for better clarity and confidence. I start by assessing the client's abilities by isolating certain aspects of his or her speech; then I work with each client one on one, adjusting the program as we go along. Skills required for my position include expertise in Standard American English pronunciation and grammatical constructions; a background in phonetics, phonology, and prosody; general understanding of language universals; ability to quickly grasp the features of a client’s language and apply that information to a structured program; an interest in helping others; and a lot of patience.
