It's no secret that CU students enjoy a drink-or two, or three. What might be surprising is that it happens any day of the week. What also contributes to the excessive socializing is the amount of activities available to students. In a town such as Boulder, a friendly hike through the Foothills or a weekend in the mountains skiing is almost commonplace.
  • 同盟或者恋爱关系
Though relationships are often explored on the CU campus, the amount of activities available to the high population of students contributes to a leading number of hookups rather than relationships.
  • 与男生/女生碰面的最好的地方
The best place to meet someone is in a classroom. Talking to someone in class generally gets you invited to some social event and from there you can meet several people. Coffee shops and going out to eat alone can work wonders for your social and dating life.
  • 着装礼仪
Step into the nearest Urban Outfitters, and you will find a display of tailored trends, which CU students faithfully subscribe to. Savvy students who prefer designer duds can also be found throughout campus decorated in high-end apparel such as Armani and Prada. To compliment these carefully-constructed threads, the sorority types sport the latest Gucci or Louis Vuitton handbag. Yet, not everyone abides by any particular set of standards. Those submitting to somewhat of a rebellion opt for spiked belts toned with a faded pair of blue jeans. This look is often favored by snowboarders and skaters. Last but not least, is the "hippie look," with which Boulder is most often associated. Corduroy and earth tones matched with dreadlocks complete this look, which has proven consistent over the years. In a nutshell: anything goes.

  • 学校精神
There's something about the University of Colorado that makes students and alumni act in strange ways. Naturally, when freshmen step foot on campus, they feel lost and somewhat unsettled. Their instincts tell them, "Hurry up and fit in!" They rush to the nearest bookstore and purchase as many things as possible embroidered with the CU name. Yet, while freshmen undoubtedly outdo the remainder of the student body when it comes to displaying their pride, throughout the football season, University spirit is at its highest. At the highly-anticipated home games, it is not uncommon to find fans painted head to toe in CU colors, with buffalo horns on their heads. Throughout the years, girls at CU have also managed to make an unofficial fashion show out of their Colorado gear. Recently, female students have applied the trend of cutting, and then sometimes re-sewing, CU T-shirts together, which makes dressing up for games anything but routine. In addition, older alumni travel from all over the United States to set up their tailgaiting parties. Those who can't make the trip to the games simply stay glued to their TV sets at home. Yes, it can be said that something about this university makes us act in less than formal ways. What it is, we can't exactly say. The only answer you may receive is: together, we will forever remain loyal Buffaloes.

  • 传统
    • Colors: Though students have proudly paraded the official school colors of silver and gold since 1988, black was recently added to contrast the gold. The original colors of silver and gold are representative of the rich minerals that Colorado holds.
    • The Norlin Charge: Each CU commencement ceremony is concluded with inspiring words that characterize the Norlin Charge. This speech, which was originally written by CU President George Norlin, was first addressed to graduates on June 9, 1935. This speech reminds graduating students that they will forever be "promoters" of the University's spirit.
    • Ralphie : In 1966, a six-month-old calf was chosen to represent the University's strength and vigor. Misled as to its gender, the student body initially named the buffalo "Ralph," but accordingly changed her name to "Ralphie." Though the original buffalo passed away in 1978, the current Ralphie still carries CU's spirit as she storms through every football game played on Folsom Field.
    • The Sink: As a finale to countless days and nights spent at the Sink, graduating students have made a practice of signing their names on the Sink walls. This tradition is often performed in the early mornings before the graduation ceremony, when the Sink opens for its graduates at 6 a.m.
  • 校园传说
The ghost of Jon Benet Ramsey haunts houses on the Hill.
  • 最喜欢做的事情
When weather permits, most CU students enjoy spending time outside. They can be found studying on the spacious grounds of the Norlin Quad, throwing Frisbees on Farrand Field, or eating lunch around the UMC Fountain. Between classes, students can often be found going to the Rec to work up a sweat. Norlin Library is also popular among those who enjoy studying in a semi-social scene, while the Hill remains the favorite spot for just about anything.
