www.housing.uci.edu/sop Each spring, UCI offers prospective students the Stay Over Program (SOP) to experience a day in the life of an Anteater. Students get the freedom to roam about the campus and attend lectures while getting to know both students and faculty. Thus, the experience is not reduced to just a pillow fight in the dorm (though that would definitely serve as a fun bonus to the experience).

Finding a job in the booming economy of Orange County (recession and all) shouldn't be too difficult, if you know where to look and who to ask. The University goes out of its way to offer a job search engine for students. A Career Center and frequent expos of local businesses looking for prime youths are also available. Keep in contact with the Career Center and your particular department throughout your time at UCI, taking up any internship that might come your way. With internships come more business contacts, and with business contacts come a better ticket to a job. Job searches through the University engine are helpful, but the internships done during your time as a student will boost both your résumé and your chances for a job.

Social scene? What social scene? Just kidding. Well, sort of. Since UCI does consist of over 20,000 students, the large size cracks down on having one main social caste system, which is definitely a good thing. The high commuter population also dampens student night activities on campus, since most commuters abandon campus like bats out of hell as soon as class ends to beat rush hour traffic. Yet, if commuters are willing to stick around campus a few extra hours, then there is definitely no shortage of things to do. Party-goers should be happy to know that there is still a social scene beneath the mild suburban setting of UCI. Although most parties are with the fraternities and sororities on campus, there are parties that are open to the public. Bookish types won't have much trouble finding kindred spirits in classes, either, so long as they actually remember to speak to them. For the latter group, there is always a plethora of film festivals and poetry readings to keep their eager minds stimulated while on a social outing.
  • 同盟或者恋爱关系
Hooking up at UCI, albeit a studious campus all around, is a lot easier than it seems. Hormones circulate the ventilation system of the lecture halls in this perpetually sunny and spring-like campus. Although one-night stands are not unheard of, most campus relationships are long-term, or at least headed in that direction.
  • 与男生/女生碰面的最好的地方
If you're looking for love, all the right places include class discussions and club activities, or even the ARC, where the student class sizes are actually small enough to have social interaction with others. Most hookups tend to be relationship-bound, and one-night stands are rare occurrences for the heavily conservative student population in the OC.
  • 着装礼仪
There's a range when it comes to the dress code at UCI. Many of the girls walking on campus keep with the trendy and stylish fashions of the season, while others are more low-key and stay casual with jeans and hoodies. The same goes for the guys, but their efforts usually go unnoticed as most eyes are on the ladies on campus.

    • Foam Party: Held every year to "foamally" baptize first-years into the UCI community, this has become a popular social event for both older and newer classes. Second-years and up get a chance to wreak havoc on naïve newbies, while also coming prepared in bathing suits the second time around.

During class breaks, you can shoot some pool or play a few arcade games in the Zot Zone, work off some midterm-crammed calories at the ARC, or head over to the University Town Center and grab a bite to eat, as well as catch an indie flick. Hanging out in the Zot Zone, the game and recreation room in the Student Center, or across the street at the University Town Center are popular must-do activities for most UCI students. At lunch, local bands jam out in the lounge area while students enjoy their meals at the student center. Since students do happen to live in image-conscious OC, working out at the ARC is not uncommon. Also, poetry readings and political lectures occur across campus sites mostly during after-class hours.

The campus housing groups and clubs typically throw one or two quarterly or annual bashes for their residents and members, renting out a hotel lounge, and having the party open to all. Dress is typically semi-formal for these stunts, but if you’re not into being fashionable there, have no fear. You should find a few fashion stragglers even in Southern California at the casual BBQs and picnics that also are frequently held by clubs.

Laid-back and relaxed, the Pier gets packed all week long, especially on post-final Fridays. Although the Pier is mainly geared towards the late 20s/early 30s crowd, students still can steal the social scene. Costs are a bit pricey in comparison to the previously-mentioned student hangout, but it's still reasonable nonetheless.
