院校简介格拉斯哥大学（英语：University of Glasgow），位于英国苏格兰格拉斯哥，创立于1451年，是苏格兰历史第二悠久、全英国校龄第四的一所久负盛名的公立大学。在近六个世纪的发展过程中，格拉斯哥大学培养出许多知名人物，这其中不仅包括“经济学之父”亚当•斯密，首先提出热力学温标概念的开尔文，蒸汽机的改良者詹姆斯•瓦特，以及外科手术消毒技术创立者约瑟夫•李斯特等，更培养出四名现代高等教育大学的创始人。格拉斯哥大学，同时也是国际大学组织Universitas 21的缔造者之一，以及英国大学集团罗素集团的缔约成员。格拉斯哥大学最近被英国《星期日泰晤士报》评选为2006/2007年苏格兰年度大学。

历史沿革

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow has dedicated more than 560 years to inspiring great minds, from economist Adam Smith and pioneer of television John Logie Baird, to the writer and producer of Doctor Who and Sherlock, Steven Moffat.
The University has inspired the talents of seven Nobel laureates, one Prime Minister, Scotland's inaugural First Minister and the country's first female medical graduates.
Glasgow’s beautiful, historical campus features more than 100 listed buildings.

体育

First-class sport facilities include two sports centres at convenient sites on university campuses with facilities including: 25m heated swimming pool; sauna and steam rooms; a range of fitness, cardiovascular and strength suites; large multi-purpose games hall; 2 all-weather synthetic pitches; 6 grass pitches, 3 tennis courts; a cricket oval.
In 2012, the University announced a £13.4-m plan that will see an extension of the current sport facilities on its main campus alongside a redevelopment of one of the University’s two student unions.
Additional services include chiropractic, physiotherapy and sports massage clinics and alternative therapies.
Sport & Recreation has more than 11,500 members, one of the highest participation rates within British Universities.
Student athletes can apply for sports bursary or golf scholarships, which can help them achieve academic and sporting success.
Glasgow is the host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Around 3,500 University places are available for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
There is a wide range of accommodation, from 7-days catering to self-catered, with a choice of room type and cost, from single ensuite bedrooms/single standard bedrooms and twin rooms
All first year full-time students who firmly accept their offer of study and apply by the deadline are offered accommodation.
The University can also provide help for students who are looking for private accommodation.
Student residences provide cabled and wi-fi unlimited access to the internet in all bedrooms, 24/7, included in the rent. All rooms have phone points and separate data points for internet access. Rents also include utilities, bedding, personal possessions insurance cover and gym membership through access to the University’s Sport & Recreation Service facilities.
