Joel M

My name is Joel and I'm originally from Texas in the United States. I studied engineering (BS) and government (BA) at the University of Texas. I did my PhD work at the University of Cambridge. I am a skilled writer and editor of both technical and non-technical documents.

Throughout my career I have worked closely with a number of colleagues who do not use English as a first language. These have primarily been people from India, China, Korea, and South America. I get immense satisfaction from editing for colleagues, and I also enjoy and benefit from editing because it helps me further develop my own writing skills.

The coursework for my BA in particular helped me develop a strong foundation for writing and editing. These skills have grown in recent years, as I've done considerable writing for my publications, fellowship applications, and thesis. I also routinely edit manuscripts and other documents for friends and colleagues.

In my free time I enjoy traveling among other things, and have been fortunate to have spent time in a number of wonderful countries including South Korea, China, England, France, Canada, Israel, Greece and Germany, along with many different cities around the United States.
