One of the essential skills required for being a successful attorney is the ability to present an argument, whether orally or in writing, in a way that persuades the reader or listener to adopt your position. You not only have to sell your case, you also have to sell yourself. As a litigator, this is a skill I have spent years cultivating. Whether you are applying for admission to a university or arguing a case before a jury you will need the power of persuasion. I can help.

I graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana with honors and then completed law school at Washburn School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. While attending law school I clerked for the Appellate Reporter for the State of Kansas. As a clerk in the Reporter's Office, I was tasked with source checking all authorities cited in opinions of the appellate court; proofreading all quotations; checking dates and other references to the record for accuracy; and checking for typographical errors, punctuation, grammar, and usage.

Immediately following graduation, I was hired by a well-respected law firm where I became a partner/owner of the firm. In my private practice I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with and provide advice to banks, businesses, agribusiness enterprises and governmental entities. My experience in that setting included general corporate work, business litigation and mergers and acquisitions.

I thereafter transitioned to a corporate counsel position with an influential trade association. In that role I worked with the governmental affairs team in circumstances where relationship building with elected officials and other professionals was fundamental. My duties included drafting legislation; testifying before the legislature; and advising the association on legal matters, including antitrust issues, immigration, contract review, policies and procedures, and intellectual property.

I am licensed to practice law in Kansas, Kansas Federal District Courts and the Western District of Missouri Federal Courts.

I have traveled to China on two occasions — the first to adopt one of my daughters and the second for business. In addition, I hosted an exchange student from China who returned to the United States to attend the University of Wisconsin. My family continues to be a support system for our exchange student, and we consider her a part of our family. I have two adopted Chinese daughters. One is from Jiande, Zhejiang Province and the other from Datong, Shanxi Province.
